Elizabeth Square, Budapest

Elizabeth Square is named after Queen Elizabeth. Sissy was the wife of the Austrian Emperor and, unlike her husband, was very popular in the 19th century. She was well liked by the nobility, was an important member of society and spoke Hungarian well.

On Elisabeth Square, Miklós Ybl's stone fountain depicts the country's most important rivers: the Danube above, and the three female figures below: the Dráva, the Száva and the Tisza. Here you can also find the Ferris wheel of Budapest. The square is also a popular meeting point for skateboarders.
