Hungarian dishes



Very often tourists ask what Hungarian flavours and dishes to try? Here are some basic Hungarian dishes you should try as a tourist.


HALÁSZLÉ

Soup, but a main course. A traditional fish soup, spicy and peppery, eaten with bread.


GULYÁS LEVES

Soup, but main course. A Hungarian soup made of beef with vegetables. Eaten with bread.


GYPSY STEAK

Main dish. Lamb with garlic and bacon, Hungarian spices.


HORTOBÁGY PANCAKES

Main dish. Pancakes filled with meat and sour cream.


GUNDEL PANCAKES

Dessert. Filling: minced walnut kernels with rum. Topped with chocolate.


DOBOS TORTA

Dessert. chocolate cake, topped with a hard caramel topping.


TUTTO RUDI

Chocolate bar, but really: chocolate on the outside, sweet curd on the inside.


LÁNGOS

Street food. A fried pastry base in oil with various toppings (e.g. cheese, sour cream, onion...)
