New Year's Eve in Budapest

Budapest is still very atmospheric in winter, and not boring at all!

More and more tourists come in the winter season, which is good because you can get into the spirit of lights, mulled wine, Christmas or New Year's Eve. True, the summer noises and colours are unforgettable, but believe me: the castle in Buda, the Budapest Zoo, the Fisherman's Bastion, the Danube bank, the roof top bars, the Christmas market at St. Stephen's Basilica are all wonderful in winter too!

If you're coming to Budapest between Christmas and New Year's Eve, or specifically for New Year's Eve, we recommend the following programme:

  • 10:00-14:00 city sightseeing, Budapest highlights, most beautiful parts of Budapest

  • 14:00-15:30 lunch (good Hungarian cuisine in one of the nice restaurants)

  • 15:30-19:30 relaxing or walking and coffee in the city centre, in the Jewish quarter or in the City Park

  • from 19:00: party or dinner in one of the trendy nightclubs.

You can get New Year's Eve ideas from last year's programme:

DID YOU KNOW? Hungarians say to each other on New Year's Eve: "BUÉK!" Which is short for BOLDOG ÚJÉVET KÍVÁNOK (I wish you a Happy New Year) :)
