This is what the Hungarian Parliament would have looked like according to the original plans

The Parliament building is symbolic for all nations, as it is where the laws that shape the life of a country are made. Of course, not all of them reach the level of international fame, such as the Capitol in Washington, the Palace of Westminster in London, the Bundestag in Berlin - or the Parliament in Budapest, which is clearly one of Hungary's most famous buildings beyond our borders.

Although it is only legend that Queen's singer Freddie Mercury wanted to buy it (he was actually joking about seeing the Parliament from a boat on the Danube), the fact is that the building, designed by Imre Steindl, is a sight for behold for virtually anyone visiting Budapest. In fact, there is even an alternative way of spreading the word about the beauty of the building, as it has been included in the sixth edition of the Civilization game series, which has sold well over 30 million copies worldwide, as a marvel called the Parliament House.

But it would not have taken much to replace the 96-metre-high, 17 745-square-metre (17 745-square-metre) neo-Gothic palace-like building, the third largest parliament building in the world, with something quite different, even an oriental effect.
