If you have only 1 day, or a few hours to visit Budapest, you won't see every important sight of our beautiful city... But don't be sad, if you visit some of these points, you will feel the nice atmosphere of our beautiful city.
Here are most important points of Budapest you have to see in any case:
1. Budai Castle
The ldest and most beautiful part of the city, on "Buda" side, on the "Castle Hill": This is the "old Town", the first district, the most elegance and romatic place, with the stunning view of the whole city: river Danube, bridges and Pest side.
2. Gellért Hill
An amazing point of the city: parks, green areas, Liberty Statue and coffeeshopr, tterraces on the top of the hill.
3. River Danube, river bank and bridges, Parliament
The river Danube devides Budapest to "Buda" and "Pest", this is the longest river of the country. Not only the walks on the river bank, but also the huge bridges (9) will impress you. On the Pest side, you will see the huge, monumental buildig of hungarian Parliament, in which you can enter as well to see the hungarian Holy Crown in the Main Hall.
4. St. Steven's Basilica
The biggest catholic church int he city, the 3rd biggest in the country (after Eger and Esztergom basilicas). Inside decoration in neo-baroque style, the outer decoration is ecletic style by 3 architects.
5. Hősök Tere (Heroes' Square) and The City PArk
The bigges square and biggest green area on Pest side, a bit further from the city centre (15 minutes by "yellow line of metro"), perfect to have a rest, eat an icecream, go to the bath (Szechenyi Bath), zoo, circus or just sit on the bank of the lake. On the Heroes' Square (or Millenium Square) you will see the biggest hungarian heroes and kings.
